UN Women Canada To Host a Rare Public Event Merging Gender Equality and Sport Before the TO2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games With a Panel Discussion and Reception in Toronto


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 12, 2015) - UN Women National Committee Canada (UNWNCC) is proud to invite the public to a landmark event June 18, 2015, where esteemed panelists from the world of sports, government, media, and more will discuss the empowerment of women and girls in the face of persistent inequalities in sports and to promote the HeForShe campaign.

"Engaging in sports helps women and girls overcome bias, develop leadership abilities, and improve their self-esteem," said UNWNCC President Almas Jiwani. Bruny Surin: Canadian track & field athlete, winner of a gold medal in the 4×100 metres relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 2008 he was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1996 Summer Olympics 4x100 relay team.
