Ken Knox Appointed as Chair of the Science, Technology and Innovation Council

The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, along with the Honourable Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science and Technology), announced the appointment of Ken Knox as Chair of the Science, Technology and Innovation Council (STIC).

Ken Knox is a former Ontario Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Deputy Minister of Energy, Science and Technology. He has extensive experience leading Canadian science, technology and innovation organizations including the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund, Ontario Genomics Institute and the Innovation Institute of Ontario.

Mr. Knox has extensive board experience, providing strategic advice to a large number of federal and provincial scientific agencies and organizations including the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, the Ontario Science and Innovation Council, the Ontario Bio Council, the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund, and the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.

STIC is composed of 18 members, representing research, education and business sectors. Its mandate is to provide the Minister of Industry with policy advice on science and technology issues and to produce regular national reports that measure Canada's science and technology performance against international standards of excellence. Mr. Knox succeeds Dr. Howard Alper, the inaugural STIC Chair appointed in 2007.
