American Portfolios Financial Services CEO Lon T. Dolber to Be Honored at Virtual Enterprises International 20th Annual Gala

HOLBROOK, NY--(Marketwired - April 15, 2016) - Lon T. Dolber, CEO, CIO and president of American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS), a privately-held, independent broker/dealer that serves financial advisors across the country, will be honored at Virtual Enterprises International's (VEI) upcoming 20th Annual Gala on April 19, 2016, at Tribeca Three Sixty in Manhattan, N.Y., for leading the charge in APFS' commitment to foster the nation's future businessmen and women.

As a non-profit organization offering an experiential learning program through the primary educational system to students in their junior and/or senior year of high school, APFS has been actively involved with VEI since 2014 through the judging and sponsorship of local student competitions. More recently, on Feb. 24, 2016, APFS hosted the finals for the sixth annual Long Island VEI Business Plan Competition at the firm's home office in Holbrook, N.Y. As part of an initiative to raise the bar higher in support of VEI, APFS has launched the AP-VEI Internship Fellows Program, a national initiative designed to mentor students into becoming budding professionals, while building a major talent pipeline for AP and its branches located nationwide.

Said VEI Executive Director Iris Blanc, "It's so encouraging to see business leaders such as Lon becoming involved and getting behind these mentorship initiatives to identify young talent. This process AP has put in place to groom these talented young people for integrating them into their professional ranks is just smart business; it's invaluable for the students and, in the end, just good corporate citizenship. It's a win-win for everybody involved."

It is for Dolber's tireless commitment to CSR, that VEI will be honoring him and the broker/dealer as a key partner in VEI's efforts to prepare students for college and careers at their 20th Annual Gala. The commemorative event on April 19, 2016, celebrates 20 years of transforming students to drive the future of business and innovation. Since its inception, VEI has changed 100,000 lives by providing students with a competitive edge through project-based, collaborative learning and the development of 21st-century skills in entrepreneurship, global business, problem solving, communication, personal finance and technology.

Dolber, who founded APFS in 2001, has amassed more than 30 years of knowledge and experience in the industry as a financial services professional, enabling him to provide leadership and strategic thinking for APFS to support its affiliated advisors and their practices located throughout the United States. Under his leadership, APFS has received numerous notable accolades -- most recently being named Broker/Dealer of the Year for 2015 by Investment Advisor magazine and one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York 2016 by the New York State Society for Human Resources Management and the Best Companies Group.

Much of this success can be attributed to the firm's five-year roadmap for growth, which relies on the interconnectedness to six strategic company perspectives: People, Innovation, Process, Customer, Financial and Community. The latter perspective is of particular personal importance to Dolber, who is an involved member of his community and the community at large. It stands to reason that APFS also places great importance on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), providing immeasurable value to its employees, customers and shareholders.

Commenting on the importance of CSR and AP's involvement with VEI, Dolber states, "In order to be a great company, equal importance must be placed on impacting and changing lives within the communities in which you serve. Not unlike these aspiring young business students who I've had the pleasure of spending time with, as the company was born out of an entrepreneurial spirit, it's all the more reason that AP play a role in mentoring the next generation of big thinkers."

In addition to the firm's support and collaboration with VEI, APFS is actively involved in numerous charitable, non-profit organizations, including World T.E.A.M. Sports, for which Dolber serves as vice chairman; The Dome Project; the production of the Silent Strength Video Series, a historical documentary project born out of the firm's association with Honor Flight Long Island; and a firm-wide charitable initiative that raised more than $18,000 to aid the Thame Sherpa Heritage Fund in Nepal.

About Lon T. Dolber

Lon T. Dolber is the founder and CEO of American Portfolios. He began a career in financial services in 1978, working as a registered representative for First Investors Corporation. Being groomed by his father, Hyman Dolber, he excelled as a financial services professional, establishing a base of more than 700 clients with $40 million dollars in assets under management. By the early 1990s, Dolber sought independence by joining MFI Investment Corp., obtaining his principals designation and opening up one of the largest OSJ offices at MFI. During this time period, he instituted many new procedures to enable the efficient flow and processing of business for the broker/dealer.

After the acquisition of MFI to a bank in 1995, Dolber was determined to create a financial service entity owned and operated by its employees, managers and financial service professionals. After moving his entire group and their licenses to Nathan & Lewis Securities in 1996, he spent the next five years further expanding his OSJ and establishing an infrastructure with systems and support to pursue the dream. That dream was realized on Sept. 10, 2001, when American Portfolios officially opened its doors for business as a fully functioning, full-service broker/dealer.
