With Zoom Video Conference Support, Project ECHO Passes Bill Through Congress

Act Enables the Health Initiative to Scale Widely on Zoom

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - December 15, 2016) - Zoom Video Communications, Inc., leading provider of video and web conferencing services, today announced that its customer, Project ECHO® at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center, has received support from the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives for the Expanding Capacity for Health Outcomes (ECHO) Act. The ECHO Act will increase access to specialized healthcare in rural and underserved areas nationally.

Project ECHO is an innovative continuing education model that uses Zoom video conferencing to link specialist teams ("hubs") with primary care providers and educators ("spokes") in rural and underserved areas. These hubs and spokes participate in weekly teleECHO™ clinics that combine teaching with telementoring and case-based learning. The benefits of the ECHO model™ are numerous, including ongoing education, greater access to high quality care and specialists for patients, improved provider networks, higher retention of providers in rural and underserved areas, and reduced costs from inappropriate and untimely care.

The ECHO Act aims to better integrate the ECHO model into health systems across the country. This act will require certain government agencies to prioritize analysis of the model, requests a report on the opportunities present in the model, and requires a reporting to congress on the findings of these activities.

"Zoom has been a powerful partner for Project ECHO as we grow and scale the ECHO model around the globe. Zoom's service allows us to comply with privacy regulations while providing an easy, effective, and affordable communications solution for medical providers in remote areas around the world," said Bill Szaroletta, P.E., Sr. Technology and Innovation Officer, University of New Mexico Project ECHO.

"Zoom is proud to be a part of this important effort to reduce rates of chronic disease and improve healthcare in rural areas. We have worked with Project ECHO for years, and we're pleased that they will be able to scale their programs far and wide. It is rewarding to see our secure, easy, compliant video communications platform help this important mission," said Eric S. Yuan, Founder and CEO of Zoom.
