1 in 5 Used Vehicles Listed Online in Alberta Has an Unfixed Safety Recall, Nearly 50% of All Used Car Transactions in Alberta Occur Without Proper Disclosures -- Canada-Based CARPROOF Offering Free Reports to Drive Awareness

LONDON, ON--(Marketwired - September 15, 2015) - After rallying a vehicle safety movement in Manitoba with alarming stats regarding unfixed recalls in that province, CARPROOF has released new findings, this time regarding used vehicles in Alberta.

According to CARPROOF, one in five used vehicles currently posted online for sale, and close to half-a-million cars on the road in Alberta are operating with unfixed manufacturer-initiated safety recalls. The company further revealed that approximately 200,000 used cars purchased annually by Albertans are transacted without proper disclosures regarding the vehicle's accident history.

"The number of unsafe vehicles on the roads and listed for sale in Alberta is alarming," says Ed Woiteshek, President and CEO at CARPROOF. "It's a public safety issue and, as Canada's gold standard in used car information, we are in a unique position to help do something about it." Safety recalls are usually fixed free of charge at your local dealership, but if a driver doesn't know their car has an important safety recall, then they simply won't have it fixed. "It's clear the current system to notify consumers of recalls is broken. We hope giving away free CARPROOF reports will help be part of the solution to make our roads safer."

"We are having an overwhelmingly positive response to our free CARPROOF report campaign in Manitoba, so we've decided to extend the same offer to Albertans. In addition to the recall issue, the campaign is creating important awareness with consumers who can be more informed about their used vehicle purchase decision by studying a car's accident history found in a CARPROOF report." Woiteshek is also quick to point out, "US-based reports that claim to have fulsome Canadian accident data fall short, but Canadian consumers don't know that. This is another example of a buyer beware world. US-based companies will gladly take your money if you don't know any better and some even charge you in US dollars. We encourage Albertans to download a free CARPROOF report even if they were previously provided one from a US-based company. These US-based substitutes frequently miss out on more than half of the Canadian accident records that appear in CARPROOF."
