10 Adventurous Women Get Ready to 'Sound Off' on Their Travels

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - March 11, 2010) -  Women on Their Way by Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), the hospitality industry's longest-running branded program dedicated entirely to female travelers, recently announced the winners of the Local Nation travel writing contest which sought to find 10 adventurous individuals to represent their fellow travelers on WomenOnTheirWay.com. 

Women on Their Way encouraged travelers and aspiring travel writers to enter the Local Nation Contest for a chance to be named to the Women on Their Way "Sounding Board," the panel of 10 women who will be awarded Wyndham Rewards points to vacation with the Wyndham Worldwide family and then report back to the travel Web site online community about their adventures. The winners will also receive a Flip Video camera to document their trip and $800 in American Express gift cards which are to be used for "food and fun" during their stays.

"Women on Their Way received numerous high-quality entries by well-traveled Americans from various backgrounds. Single women who have traveled the world, moms who want to teach their kids about various cultures by experiencing them firsthand, and newlyweds who have just started to explore the world with their partners - to name a few," said Alyson Johnson, vice president of communications for Wyndham Worldwide and author of the blog, Adventures with Alyson. "The Women on Their Way program is for all women so it was very exciting to receive such a strong and diverse response to our contest. Winners were selected based on a variety of criteria including community voting, writing style and ability, member engagement, likeability, and diversity of interest and thought. In addition, the Women on Their Way community voted on their favorite entry throughout the month of January. Lynn Spreadbury of Norwalk, Conn., was selected as the Community Choice Winner.

Spreadbury, a part-time consultant with the Business Council of Fairfield County, has globe-trotted across five continents, 50 countries, and 45 states. Her adventures have found her touring the U.S. from coast to coast with her favorite rock band, eating termites off trees in Central America, sleeping in a Bolivian hotel made of salt, leaping from a plane at 20,000 feet over New Zealand and fighting a sandstorm in Mongolia's Gobi Desert.

"Travel is my passion. I love the mystery and adventure that awaits me when I step off the plane. I often travel solo and end up in some comical situations, so I am excited to be able to share them with others as a member of the Women on Their Way Sounding Board," said Spreadbury. "The Women on Their Way program is really fantastic. It is a great resource for women travelers, but more importantly, it's a very empowering community."
