100 Gigabit Ethernet Interoperability Test a Success at Largest Internet Exchange Point in Japan

SAN JOSE, CA and TOKYO--(Marketwire - Jun 21, 2011) - The Japanese Internet Exchange Point (IXP) and operator of the Japan Network Access Point (JPNAP), Internet Multifeed Co., have successfully conducted a 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interoperability test. Based on the results of the test, it has been confirmed that 100 GbE is ready to be deployed into IXP environments in terms of both interoperability and performance.

The trial was carried out in conjunction with the Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) and NTT Communications (NTT Com) using routers, switches and packet generators provided by Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) and other networking vendors. Internet Multifeed Co. will now consider the service specification and pricing, and plans to provide 100 GbE service by end of 2011.

Based on the success of the test, 100 GbE deployments by large Internet Service Providers are anticipated in order to quickly scale with the massive volume for high definition video online. Extending these scalability capabilities into the future, Brocade 100 GbE blades enable service providers to deploy Terabit-per-second trunks, which allows the bundling of multiple 100 GbE ports in a single logical link for even greater bandwidth and reduced management.

This innovative technology supports the streaming of a half-million high-definition video streams over a single managed connection and delivers more than twice the operational efficiency of competitive offerings at a dramatically lower cost. The result is greater profitability gains to help service providers offer ultra-high-performance, yet affordable, broadband connectivity and services for their subscribers.
