10gen Announces Hiring of Max Schireson as President

MongoDB Project Sponsor Expands Executive Team

REDWOOD SHORES, CA--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) - 10gen, the company that started the open source MongoDB project, today announced the hiring of Max Schireson as President.

"Max brings to 10gen a strong understanding of the database market, both from the perspective of an established market leader and an upstart alternative technology," said Dwight Merriman, co-founder and CEO of 10gen. "Usage of MongoDB has been growing explosively; adding Max to the team will help us scale the company to keep up with the interest in our technology."

Prior to joining 10gen, Schireson was at MarkLogic, provider of a database for unstructured information, where he played a variety of executive roles, including Executive Vice President, Customer Solutions and Chief Operating Officer. Under Schireson's leadership, MarkLogic ranked as the 4th fastest growing software company in Silicon Valley in Deloitte's 2008 Technology Fast 50. Prior to his 7 years of business leadership at MarkLogic, Schireson spent 9 years at Oracle (ORCL) in positions of technical leadership including Chief Applications Architect and Vice President, ECommerce and Self Service Applications. At Oracle, Schireson led teams of over 200 technical professionals worldwide and was a part of the leadership team for the applications business as well as the company's Architecture Review Board.

"I came to 10gen because the database industry is changing. Developers and IT executives are realizing that the RDBMS is not the solution to all problems," said Schireson. "They want agility and scalability, and they want open source products which don't break their budgets. MongoDB is the leading product in this space and has a vibrant and growing user community. I am excited to work with Dwight and the rest of the team to continue to grow the company, the community, and the product."

MongoDB is an open source, high performance, non-relational database. It is the leading technology in the NoSQL space, with downloads exceeding 100,000/month. Fortune 500 companies as well as internet companies like foursquare, bit.ly, IGN, and SourceForge use MongoDB to deliver innovative large-scale applications.
