10gen Announces Key Hires in Engineering and Sales

MongoDB Project Sponsor Expands Operations, Opening Bay Area Office

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - August 12, 2010) -  10gen, the company that started the open source MongoDB project, today announced the hiring of Roger Bodamer, SVP Products and Engineering, and Kerry Ancheta, SVP of Worldwide Sales. In addition, 10gen will be expanding operations to the West Coast in order to meet the demand for support and services among the growing MongoDB user base. The Bay Area office will include engineering support and sales staff to complement the core engineering team based in New York City.

"Roger has over 20 years of management experience and deep knowledge of database architectures and internals. He is the ideal executive to develop our support infrastructure and incubate our west coast office," said Dwight Merriman, co-founder and CEO of 10gen. "Kerry brings expertise in open source database sales and marketing. We are seeing increasing demand for professional MongoDB services in the enterprise, and Kerry will build the sales organization to meet that demand."

Bodamer, whose resume includes senior management positions at Oracle and Apple, will be responsible for leading the engineering and support staff. Bodamer's experience includes 12 years with Oracle's Database and Application Server development organization, where he pioneered products that delivered distributed and heterogeneous interoperability. He also served as COO and SVP of product operations and engineering at Apple's PowerSchool division. He holds several patents for database and middleware technology.

Ancheta, who previously led enterprise sales at MySQL, will develop the sales organization at 10gen. Ancheta has 15 years of experience in the database business. Prior to joining 10gen, Ancheta spent over 8 years leading enterprise and embedded sales in various global markets for MySQL Inc.; helping to lead it to a successful acquisition by Sun Microsystems. He combines a deep knowledge of open source business with traditional commercial business.

"Adoption of MongoDB is growing at a rapid pace. As MongoDB becomes the leading open source database, 10gen is committing to invest in a robust support and sales organization," said Kevin Ryan, Co-Founder and Director of 10gen. "With recent production installations at major companies like Shutterfly, the New York Times, Etsy, foursquare, and bit.ly, it's crucial to have the infrastructure in place to support the demand for enterprise services."

MongoDB is an open source, high performance, non-relational database. It is the leading technology in the NoSQL space. Downloads of the database exceeded 50,000 in the month of July. Adoption of the database is also evidenced by sold-out conferences in San Francisco, New York City, London and Paris, and Seattle with aggregate attendance of over 700 people; similar events are scheduled for Boston, Berlin, Chicago, Silicon Valley, and more. As usage of the database continues to grow, 10gen expects to scale the company to 30 employees by the end of 2010.
