10th Anniversary of Chinese Head Tax & Exclusion Act Redress


TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - June 20, 2016) - In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the parliamentary apology (June 22, 2006) for the Chinese Head Tax & Chinese Exclusion Act, the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter (CCNCTO) & Metro Toronto Chinese & Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (MTCSALC) will host a proclamation event at Toronto City Hall.

Mayor John Tory will proclaim June 22 as Chinese Head Tax & Exclusion Act Redress Day followed by a roundtable discussion to reflect on the meaning of Redress and its impact on the present day struggle for equality for Chinese Canadians.

WHO:
CCNCTO is an organization of Chinese Canadians in the City of Toronto that promotes equity, social justice, inclusive civic participation, and respect for diversity.

The MTCSALC is a community based legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario, which provides free legal services to low income, non-English speaking clients from the Chinese, Vietnamese, Laotian and Cambodian communities in Toronto and has over 25 years of experience serving these communities.
