10th Annual Canadian Brewing Awards in Montreal

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 12, 2012) - On Saturday June 9th, the 10th annual Canadian Brewing Awards presentation was held at The Montreal Arts Centre in the Griffintown area of Montreal. There were 559 beers in 37 categories entered into this year's competition from 96 Canadian breweries. Awards of gold, silver or bronze were given to the top three scoring beers in each category. The judging was conducted in Toronto over a three day period by 37 BJCP certified beer judges in a blind tasting.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Awards, the presentation was expanded into a two-day industry conference with guest speakers and seminars geared to Canadian Brewers' interests and professional development. The CBAs again recognized one brewery for outstanding achievement, with Surrey BC's Central City Brewing Company being awarded as 2012's "Brewery of the Year". This year's "Beer of the Year", for the highest scoring single entry beer in all categories, was awarded to À la Fût, from Saint-Tite, Quebec for their Co-Hop V in the Wood and Barrel Aged Sour Beer category.

The CBAs are owned and operated by TAPS, Canada's only national beer magazine. TAPS President Rob Engman said, "As we marked the 10th anniversary for the CBAs, we also embarked on a very significant expansion into the first ever Canadian Brewers Conference. We will be moving this event across Canada in successive years with the 2013 CBAs slated for BC."
