120 community groups in rural Canada to benefit from FCC AgriSpirit funding

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Dec. 15, 2011) - Over one hundred groups in rural Canada want to make life even better in their communities, and now they have the funding to help make it happen. Farm Credit Canada (FCC) is giving a total of $1 million through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund to 120 rural community groups across Canada for various capital projects. For more information about the selected projects in each province, visit www.agrispirit.ca.

Now in its eighth year, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards rural community groups between $5,000 and $25,000 for community improvement projects, such as recreation and community centres, emergency services training facilities and health and safety centres. The fund supports much-needed projects and celebrates the people responsible for making a positive difference in the lives of those around them.

Nationally, 1,146 applications were received for FCC AgriSpirit funding, a clear indication that people in rural Canada are passionate about their communities, and doing their part to ensure they continue to thrive.

To receive funding, selected groups must meet specific criteria prior to implementing their projects, which must be finalized before December 2013.

"There are amazing things happening every day in rural Canada," says Rémi Lemoine, FCC Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer. "From the hundreds of community improvement projects to the dedicated people behind them, we know the spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in rural communities across the country."
