VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 10, 2012) - The 35th Annual CKNW Orphans' Fund Pledge Day Radiothon took place on December 7th at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Pledge Day was created with the goal to raise funds for children with special needs in BC, and this year an all time record of $1,708,869 was reached thanks to so many generous supporters! This annual day of giving, broadcast live on CKNW (a division of Corus Entertainment), was hosted by radio station personalities and featured community leaders, clients, recipients and children's choirs. Among the guests were celebrities, members of the media and politicians including Premier Christy Clark, who helped make Pledge Day such a success.
Ron Toigo, CKNW Orphans' Fund Chair, said: "It is a privilege for me to be involved with this Vancouver institution. Over the past 67 years the CKNW Orphans' Fund has helped children in BC with physical, mental and social challenges. Sadly, today there is just as great a need as ever for financial assistance. Pledge Day kicked off the Holiday Season for many people for which we appreciate their generous donations."
CKNW Radio devoted a day of broadcasting to the Orphans' Fund, allowing the station's listeners, clients and sponsors to publicly express their compassion and generosity towards the Fund. This programming began during the early 1970s on the station's talk shows, and grew into the public "Pledge Day" format by 1977. The CKNW Orphans' Fund is dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of children with challenges in BC. Thank you British Columbia, for your generosity.
