19th Annual Defi Corporatif Canderel

Montreal's Original Fun Run for Cancer Research

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 2, 2008) - The 19th annual Defi Corporatif Canderel "fun run" was held on Friday May 2nd. Hundreds of costumed business people and professionals from corporate Montreal gathered once again at the corner of Bleury and Rene-Levesque for the festivities. Teams from some of Montreal's leading corporations arrived in fantastic and creative costumes. After warming up their muscles thanks to the trainers from the Mansfield Athletic Club, Mayor Gerald Tremblay sent the runners on their way through the streets of Montreal for the 4-km fun run benefiting cancer research at our local universities.

Alongside Mayor Gerald Tremblay, Mr. Luc Sicotte, President and CEO of Canderel and Mrs. Pamela Wener, sister of Mr. Jonathan Wener, Chairman of Canderel, cheered the runners as they took to the streets. The major sponsors this year were Canderel, Great West Life, London Life Canada Life and Mansfield Athletic Club.

Mr. Gerald Levy, the executive director of the Defi Corporatif Canderel and Sylvain Girard, Defi spokesperson, acted as masters of ceremonies.

The Defi Corporatif Canderel is one of the most significant annual fundraising events in Montreal. According to the most recent statistics, cancer is now the number one killer in Quebec. More than $5.5 million has been raised by the Defi Corporatif Canderel over the last 19 years with the belief that it is only through research that cancer can be beaten! The funds raised benefit the McGill Cancer Centre and the Institut du cancer de Montreal, affiliated with the Universite de Montreal.
