2009 Canadian Cancer Society Richmond Hill and Vaughan Relays for Life-Magic, Movies, Music and Much More!

Overnight event to raise money for cancer research and care

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 5, 2009) - This summer's Relay For Life in Richmond Hill and Vaughan have unique lineups, including a magic-performing family, a 'Screening Under the Stars' film festival, and an assortment of up-and-coming musical talents from around York Region. These acts accompany various fitness sessions, a dance competition and a night full of entertainment and games for supporters and fundraisers.

"It's a really special line-up this year," says Entertainment Chair Lola Davidson, "we have so many different types of entertainment. There's something for everyone."

The annual event by the Canadian Cancer Society is one of bonding and team-building. While the event is in support of a cure, it also celebrates those who overcame their battles with cancer and to remember loved ones lost.

Last year's Relays in Richmond Hill and Vaughan combined for over $146,000 in fundraising towards cancer research and care, and were a big hit for those who participated.

"They were a great success," said Mark Tubis, Relay For Life committee member and attendee, "the events were full of supporters of all ages who came together and had a great time."

The Vaughan Relay will be held at Boyd Conservation Area on June 5, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The Richmond Hill event follows two weeks later on June 19, 2009, at Richmond Green and runs during the same time. Food and snacks are provided to fundraisers, whose teams pitch tents and camp out for the night in support of a cure. At least one team member must be on the makeshift Relay track during the event.

Luminaries will be lit at sunset in memory of those lost to cancer, and are available for purchase before and during the event. Please visit www.cancer.ca/relay for more details.
