2010 Canadian Pro Bono Awards Highlight the Power of Pro Bono

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Aug. 17, 2010) - The Canadian Pro Bono Awards honour lawyers and legal organizations that are working pro bono to improve access to justice in Canada. The Awards recognize outstanding pro bono contributions in the following categories: Law Firm Pro Bono, Distinguished Service (Individual) and Pro Bono Program. Nominations were received from across Canada.

The 2010 nominees and recipients have demonstrated dedication to the development and delivery of pro bono legal services and have contributed significant work toward developing innovative approaches to delivering volunteer legal services. The nominees and recipients have also demonstrated leadership in improving access to justice in their local areas on behalf of individual clients, communities or charitable organizations.

The 2010 Canadian Pro Bono Award recipients are:

1. Canadian National Law Firm Award
- Borden Ladner Gervais LLP

2. Canadian Law Firm Award
- Dawson Stevens Duckett & Shaigec, Edmonton AB

3. Pro Bono Distinguished Service Award
- The Honourable Judge John T. Henderson, Edmonton AB

4. Pro Bono Program Award
- Pro Bono Students Canada Family Law Project, (National Project)

The Awards will be presented on Thursday, September 16, 2010 as part of the upcoming 3rd National Pro Bono Conference, to be held in Calgary, Alberta September 15, 16 and 17 at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. The Conference Banquet and Awards Ceremony also features keynote speaker Mr. Stephen Lewis of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
