2010 Control Systems Software and Hardware Integration-Related NPT Benchmarking Report for Offshore Assets Now Available

Cost, Causes, Industry Opportunities & Initiatives to Reduce NPT Identified

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - April 19, 2010) -  Today Athens Group and ModuSpec published the first set of results, focused on control systems software and hardware integration-related Non-Productive Time (NPT) from "The State of NPT on High-Specification Offshore Assets: Second Annual Benchmarking Report." Per the report: total NPT experienced during the first two years of operations on highly-automated late generation offshore assets is 50-67% greater than what is deemed acceptable. Optimizing drilling efficiency, enabling the extraction of "hard-to-get oil," and "getting to zero" safety incidents will require further automation. The information in this second annual benchmarking report is based on survey responses from Drilling Contractors and Operators. The survey was designed to help respondents reduce NPT on late-generation assets by answering these questions:

  • How does my NPT (cost and breakout) compare to the industry average?
  • What are my peers doing in 2010 to reduce costs and increase uptime?
  • Has any progress been made in this area in the last year?
  • What are the hidden causes of, and opportunities to reduce, NPT?
  • Can anything else be done in this specialized area to reduce NPT?
  • How can the industry work together to cost-effectively reduce NPT?
