2010 FPTT AWARDS

BACKGROUNDER

Since 1998, the FPTT Awards have honoured 61 teams and individuals who have transferred a wide array of knowledge, techniques, services and products that have created jobs, generated wealth and contributed to the economic and social well-being of Canadians at home, while cultivating new markets abroad. Awards are determined by a selection committee composed of individuals from the science and technology community. The committee is guided by several criteria, such as the complexity and level of skill required during the technology transfer process; the extent of commercial advancement of the technology; the benefits to Canadian firms or sectors; and the contribution to Canadian competitiveness, economic growth, and standard of living.

The FPTT Excellence in Technology Transfer Award recognizes the successful transfer of new knowledge and technologies from Canadian federal research organizations leading to significant public good and socio-economic impact. These awards are given in two sub-categories:

  • Knowledge Application recognizes outstanding success in the exploitation or mobilization of new knowledge that supports the development of federal legislation, regulation, practices, standards and policy mandates of federal science-based departments and agencies (SBDAs) in the areas of safety, security, health, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability;
  • Knowledge Commercialization recognizes outstanding success in the commercial and economic exploitation of newly discovered usable and saleable products and services or in the creation and development of new businesses (Spin-offs) that market and sell newly discovered knowledge and innovative technologies.

The FPTT Leadership in Technology Transfer Award recognizes outstanding skill in technology transfer and/or excellence in technology transfer management.

This year, FPTT Awards will be bestowed upon the teams and individuals listed below.
