2011/2012 ORHMA Toronto Restaurant Awards

The ORHMA Toronto Restaurant Awards Presented to a sold out crowd

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 26, 2012) - Following a public and industry campaign for nominations in several categories, the inaugural year of the Awards program culminated in a spectacular event January 24th at the historic Palais Royale. Emcee'd by Roger Ashby of 104.5 CHUM FM fame, nine restaurants, and ten wine and beer suppliers provided a fantastic array of tasting stations to guests, dignitaries, and award winners.

The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Michael Chan addressed attendees to open the evening, and stated "The contribution that the restaurant and hospitality industry makes to Ontario's attractiveness as a tourist destination is vital. The Ministry of Tourism and the Provincial government is very proud to have a strong working partnership with the ORHMA"

A $10,000 cheque was presented to George Brown College, Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts which through government matching grants will create a $20,000 endowment fund.

Favourite Server - Velma Pascual - Pickle Barrel Sherway Gardens
Favourite Bartender - Masoud Ahmadifard - The Pilot
Favourite Restaurant - Fabarnak

Best New Restaurant of 2011 "as chosen by Post City Magazines Editors" - Acadia
Industry Nominated Awards
Supplier of the Year - Ecolab k House
Chef of the Year - Tom Brodi
TOCA by Tom Brodi at the Ritz - Carlton
Restaurateur of the Year
Lana Duke - Ruth's Chris Steak House
Industry Recognition Award - Jim Greenwood

Attendees voted on the foods served that evening and The Favourite Plate Award went to Ruth's Chris Steak House who served a fantastic Filet with Sautéed New Orleans style barbequed shrimp in a spiced, white wine, butter and garlic reduction.

Jason Cheskes, President of the ORHMA, Toronto Region summarized things as "We could not be more pleased with the evening and the opportunity to recognize such fantastic winners this year while at the same time establishing such a significant endowment for students." He also encouraged members of the industry to engage actively with the ORHMA and consider joining the Board of Directors.
