2012 Festival TransAmeriques Benefit Gala: Strong Support for North America's Largest Dance and Theatre Festival

MONTREAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - May 31, 2012) -

The entire Festival TransAmériques (FTA) team is thrilled by the success of its sixth benefit gala, with the funds raised earmarked for maintaining and developing the FTA program for co-producing new works. The total amount raised at the event came to $46,600. The money will be allocated for the support that the FTA provides year after year to local artists for the creation of new works that are bold and striking, and that resonate beyond our borders.

The success of the gala was due in large part to the involvement of the National Bank, which sponsored the event for the third consecutive year, and to the nine very devoted members of the Host Committee under honorary president Diane Giard, National Bank Executive Vice-President, Personal and Commercial Banking. "The Festival TransAmériques is a seminal event in the cultural landscape of Montreal. In order to be able to continue to shed light on the contemporary scene, the FTA must be able to count on the support of partners from diverse fields of endeavour. The results of the benefit gala are an indication of the commitment of the Montreal business community and arts milieu to supporting the creation and presentation of new works at the Festival. I would like to thank all the participants for their precious contributions, as well as the members of the organizing committee for their unfailing support," said Mme Giard. The memorable performance by the dancers and musicians of the company Rosas in their presentation of En Atendant greatly contributed to the success of this event, marked by grace and emotion.

The presence of the consul general of Belgium was further endorsement of belief in the value of dance and theatre and in the importance of an international festival of contemporary creation in Montreal. The Festival TransAmériques is honoured to have had the consul among our guests.

The Festival TransAmériques champions contemporary dance and theatre, and since 2007 has been involved as a co-producer of new works, leading to the development and presentation of more than 50 dance and theatre pieces. After an initial appearance at the Festival, they went on to more than 750 performances in Quebec, across Canada and around the world. For its sixth edition this year, the FTA is proud to have set a new record, co-producing nine new works by local artists.

Donations are Important

A registered charitable organization, the FTA responds to the needs of our communities every year by investing in co-productions (46 dance and theatre pieces since 2007), by offering free performances to the general public and by providing community outreach programs that give more than 200 high school students access to culture.

Many thanks to our benefit gala partners: National Bank of Canada, Consulate General of Belgium, Olive Orange, Usine C, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and Marcel Proulx Horticulteur.
