2013 Calgary Folk Music Festival Announces Full Line-Up + Early Bird Ticket Sales Launch

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - April 24, 2013) - At the 34th annual Calgary Folk Music Festival, July 25-28 on Prince's Island Park revel in the sights and sounds of musical exploration and community as 76 artists from 13 countries perform on 7 stages. It's the city's annual journey into the roots and evolution of the music we like to call folk, with an edge.

2013 marquee artists include: M. Ward and Alabama Shakes (Thursday), Hayden and Thievery Corporation (Friday), Steve Earle and the Dukes and Cat Empire (Saturday) and Kurt Vile and Creedence Clearwater Revisited (Sunday).

A mind and ear opening journey, unravel artist stories and make many musical discoveries over the weekend. It's a vast collection of fiercely independent, original artists.

  • Musicians with long roots and music histories such as Albert Lee, World Party, Mary Margaret O'Hara and Over the Rhine share stages with relative newcomers The Dunwells, Jordie Lane, Samantha Martin, Sarah Neufeld, Rachel Sermanni and Amylie.

  • Indie artists are in full force, including Bahamas, Elliott BROOD, Grant Lee Phillips, Sandro Perri, Thus:Owls and Evening Hymns.

  • Take in entrancing global sounds with Haram, Aziz Sahmaoui & University Of Gnawa, Minor Empire, Fanfare Ciocărlia, Danny Michel with the Garifuna Collective and Mamselle.

  • Dance to funk and grooves from Anthony Joseph and Spasm Band, Nomadic Massive and Saidah Baba Talibah.

  • The Apache Talk Tent is back, filled with comedy and entertaining artist panel discussions.

Each evening, take in concerts on the mainstage and the twilight stage Friday and Saturday nights. On Saturday and Sunday 10:30 am - 5:30 pm and Friday 3:00 - 6:00 pm our unique collaborations unite artists in exquisite songwriter-in-the-round mash-ups on 6 stages.

The 8th annual Folk Boot Camp at the National Music Centre (July 23-25) offers students an unparalleled opportunity to hone their craft alongside festival artists who teach songwriting (Hayes Carll, Dan Bern and Amelia Curran), guitar (Albert Lee and Paul Pigat) and vocals (Samantha Martin and the Haggard).
