2013 Year for Unisex Names, According to WhitePages

Jordan, Riley Popular Amongst Males; Avery, Peyton Popular Amongst Females

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Jan 16, 2014) - WhitePages, the leading provider of contact information for people and businesses in the U.S., today unveiled 2013's most popular unisex names in the country. Based on data from Names.WhitePages.com, Jordan, Riley and Avery are the most popular names for both boys and girls overall. The company also looked at the overall popularity of male and female names and found that John takes top honor in the male category and Mary is the big winner for females.

"We are seeing celebrities jumping on this trend. In the past year, Kristen Bell named her daughter Lincoln, Kim Kardashian chose North and Lisa Ling went with Jett, all selecting unisex names for their girls," said Liz Powell, culture and trend Expert from WhitePages. "What's interesting is that as unisex names grow, there are some names that seem to trend at almost an even split between males and females, including Riley, Peyton and Rowan. We expect to see this trend grow into 2014."

WhitePages also looked at the fastest rising names for females and males over the last five years. Findings showed that Chloe and Jacob were most popular over the last five years and William has also made a comeback within the under five age group.
