2014 Ferguslea Senators Soirée raises $327,500 for children and youth

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 26, 2014) - The 2014 Ferguslea Senators Soirée, the premier fundraising event of the Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation), has raised $327,500 in support of children and youth.

Monies raised will support the Ottawa Senators Foundation and their investments in social recreation and education programs that promote physical and mental wellness. Including, a number of exciting initiatives within our community such as the development of the Sens Sports and Leadership League, a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa, outdoor Sens RINK construction projects in addition to programs like I Love to Skate and Sens@School.

More than 700 guests along with Senators players, members of the coaching staff and management, attended this year's event, which was themed Sochi, at Gatineau's Hilton Lac-Leamy. The players and their significant others hosted a variety of games while interacting with guests during the cocktail reception.

One-of-a-kind auction items were the theme of the evening, highlighted by a package featuring Senators players Kyle Turris, Bobby Ryan, Joe Corvo, Clarke MacArthur, Marc Methot, Erik Karlsson, Zack Smith and Chris and Erin Phillips going to the winners' home and preparing a meal for them and their guests. This item raised an unprecedented $50,000. Other items included a trip for two to the Heritage Classic in Vancouver, a two-hour private engagement with five-time Olympian Hayley Wickenheiser and the opportunity to stand behind the bench during the Sens Skills event. Senators public-address announcer Stuntman Stu of Majic 100 served as emcee for the evening.

"My sincerest thanks to the Senators players and coaches, our sponsors, table purchasers, volunteers and guests for their support raising funds and awareness for the one in five local children who don't have access to after school programs and activities. said Danielle Robinson, president and CEO, Ottawa Senators Foundation. "Events like tonight bring us another step closer to changing the statistics."

"The Ferguslea Senators Soirée is such a terrific event for fans," said Ferguslea president Dan Greenberg. "Not only does it offer up a truly magical night of entertainment hosted by the Ottawa Senators, but it ensures the children of our region will have support and care when they need it most and access to community resources like skating rinks."

Since 1992, the Ottawa Senators and the Ottawa Senators Foundation, through their annual dinner/soirée event, have provided more than $3.55 million in support of programs and initiatives for local children and youth.
