2014 Global Cleantech 100 Names Chrysalix Portfolio Companies as Top Innovators in Sustainability

Chrysalix funded early stage innovators Axine, General Fusion, Liquid Light and NanoSteel recognized as leaders in clean technology and resource efficiency

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Oct. 6, 2014) - Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital, one of the most active venture capital firms investing in clean technology and sustainable innovation, congratulates four of its portfolio companies that have been named to the 2014 Global Cleantech 100. Axine Water Technologies, developers of a low-cost, breakthrough solution for treating toxic organic pollutants in wastewater; General Fusion, a leading developer of fusion energy; Liquid Light, which develops process technology to convert carbon dioxide into major chemicals; and NanoSteel, a world leader in proprietary nano-structured steel material designs, were listed among today's top innovators in cleantech and resource efficiency.

In the past four years alone, more than half of the Chrysalix portfolio has been recognized on the Global Cleantech 100 as the companies that are best positioned to solve tomorrow's clean energy challenges.

"On behalf of the Chrysalix team, I congratulate these outstanding companies on their achievement in innovation and valuable contributions to sustainability," says Wal van Lierop, President and CEO of Chrysalix EVC. "With many disruptive innovations now maturing and financial returns becoming very real, it's increasingly clear that sustainability initiatives can create profits and business opportunities while answering the call to solve some of the world's greatest economic and environmental challenges."

Axine has developed a breakthrough, low-cost, chemical-free solution for treating high concentrations of complex, toxic organics and ammonia in industrial wastewater solving a multi-billion dollar problem for large companies in a wide range of industries. Chemical manufacturing, oil & gas, and other water-intensive sectors can now avoid the production bottlenecks, high trucking and disposal costs, water reuse limitations, and difficulties meeting increasingly tougher regulations that have plagued them for decades.

Fusion energy is closer than we think, thanks in no small part to General Fusion, which is pioneering the way to a clean, safe, abundant alternative to fossil fuels. Founded in 2002, and supported by a global syndicate of investors led by Chrysalix, General Fusion is developing the fastest, most practical and lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.

Liquid Light was named "Rising Star of the Year," as the highest-ranked new entrant on the Global Cleantech 100. Liquid Light's technology is based on energy-efficient catalytic electrochemistry that converts low-cost, readily-available CO2 to major chemicals. The company's technology provides a pragmatic solution for customers, allowing them to monetize their C02 waste and reduce their carbon footprint.

NanoSteel is commercializing novel sheet steels for automotive lightweighting featuring unprecedented combinations of high strength and formability. These materials enable weight reduction in car structural components to improve fuel economy, while maintaining safety and ride quality. The company's platform technology is being applied to a number of additional markets, including additive manufacturing.

The Global Cleantech 100 is a prestigious list of the top private companies in clean technology created by the Cleantech Group, an international organization that provides market intelligence and advisory services to the cleantech industry. Out of more than 9,000 nominees, the winners are selected through data gathered by the Cleantech Group, as well as insight from an expert panel of cleantech leaders.
