2017 Wisdom of Crowds Business Intelligence Market Study Now Available from Dresner Advisory Services

8th Annual Report Provides Comprehensive Analysis of Business Intelligence User Priorities and Trends; Buyers' Guide Edition Also Available

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - May 31, 2017) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2017 Wisdom of Crowds® Business Intelligence Market Study. The annual report is the company's broad assessment of the business intelligence (BI) market, examining key user trends, attitudes, and three-year plans.

For each annual study, BI users contribute their opinion on topics related to their current and planned usage and are asked to prioritize technologies and initiatives strategic to BI. This year's report adds three technologies, including natural language analytics, video analytics, and data catalog, bringing the total to 33 topics under study. The 2017 report also features an expanded section on the chief analytics and chief data officer roles, a new segment on budget, and information about the ways in which organizations measure the success or failure of their BI initiatives.

"Each year we expand our coverage, while retaining the previous years' framework to provide users with meaningful multi-year comparisons and rich insight into emerging trends," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "We are excited about the continual growth and adoption of business intelligence, and are pleased to delivery the newest annual assessment of user trends and intentions, offering a fresh and invaluable end-user perspective on the state of the BI market."

According to the report, penetration of business intelligence as a percentage of total employees grew noticeably between 2015 and 2017. Respondents expect greater BI expansion and penetration in future time frames at a faster rate than during the previous year. Better decision making remains the top objective for business intelligence with improved operational efficiency as the second choice, followed by revenue growth, increased competitive advantage, and enhanced customer service.

For the second year in a row, survey respondents say operations is the leading driver of BI within the organization. Executive management, which had formerly and traditionally been the leading driver, is the second most-cited functional driver in 2017, with finance and IT the next strongest proponents.

According to the 2017 report, industry performance this year improved across nearly every measured parameter. Quality and usefulness improved across all measures, and vendors reached all-time high scores in all areas of technical performance.

The company also announced availability of the 2017 Buyers' Guide Edition. This separate, exclusive version of the flagship BI Market Study enables readers to compare and contrast 25 current vendor-supported BI capabilities across traditional, cloud, and mobile platforms for 26 individual vendors.

"Our Buyers' Guide goes beyond any other vendor evaluation platform to provide a clear, unbiased assessment of available products and their strengths," continued Mr. Dresner. "It offers a side by side portrait of the supplier market, helping user organizations evaluate industry offerings and make the most informed technology selection."

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market. To purchase a copy of the 2017 Wisdom of Crowds Business Intelligence Market Study Buyers' Guide Edition, visit www.biwisdom.com.
