22nd Annual C. Dennis Flynn Foundation Annual St. Patrick's Day Charity Luncheon

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 14, 2014) - The 22nd Annual C. Dennis Flynn Foundation Annual St. Patrick's Day Charity Luncheon is being held at the Old Mill Inn at 21 Old Mill Road (Bloor Street and the Old Mill Subway) from 11:30 am to 2:00 PM.

The net proceeds from the luncheon will be donated to the C. Dennis Flynn Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1984 at the time that Dennis Flynn, the then-Mayor of the City of Etobicoke, was leaving to assume his new position as the 5th Chairman of Metropolitan Toronto. The Foundation was established to provide funding for families in crisis. Recipients of the Foundation's proceeds include women shelters (Ernestine's Women's Shelter and Women's Habitat), youth shelters (Youth Without Shelter and Covenant House), the Dorothy Ley Hospice and the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Mr. Flynn was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was two years old. His political career spanned over 25 years including serving as the Mayor of the City of Etobicoke, the Chairman of Metropolitan Toronto and the Metro Council representative for the Kingsway Humber riding prior to amalgamation. He was honoured with the Order of Ontario in 2001. Mr. Flynn passed away in August of 2013.

The good works for the Foundation are continued by his family. The President of the Foundation and host of the St. Patty's Day luncheon is his only daughter of seven children, Mary Flynn-Guglietti, a lawyer with McMillan LLP.

The event includes green beer, lunch, entertainment by comedian Terry McGurrin and a raffle. The MC for the event is John Tory, a Toronto mayorality candidate. Special guests in attendance will be Mayor Rob Ford, Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby, Councillor Peter Milczyn, Councillor Crisanti, MPP Doug Holyday and MPP Donna Cansfield as well as the Chief of Toronto Police Services William Blair.
