24 New Affordable Housing Units, Including 10 for People With Reduced Mobility, in Montmagny

MONTMAGNY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 29, 2017) - The project Le Riverain was officially opened today, in Montmagny. Of the 24 affordable housing units that were built, 10 are intended for people with reduced mobility. This project, which required investments of nearly $3.9 million, is an initiative of the Corporation d'habitation du Littoral.

The building, located on the banks of the Rivière du Sud, provides a quiet living environment for its occupants. Situated near many services, the project comprises 17 one-bedroom and 7 two-bedroom units. In addition to a community room with a breathtaking view of the river, tenants have an indoor space to park their mobility scooters.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation; Norbert Morin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy and Member of the National Assembly for Côte-du-Sud, on behalf of Martin Coiteux, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region; and Jean-Guy Desrosiers, Mayor of Montmagny.

Quotes

"The peace of mind that comes with having a secure and stable home is invaluable. This is why our Government is pleased to have been involved in the creation of these 24 new units which provide housing that is both affordable and safe to those who need it most. Ten of the units are adapted to accommodate people with limited mobility. This is good news for the residents of Montmagny as it is a tangible step towards helping the people of the community and the local economy." - The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation

"Through its financial support to this project, the Government of Quebec is locally helping people with mobility issues. I applaud this admirable initiative by the Corporation d'habitation du Littoral and its partners. It was their determination that allowed us to celebrate today the official opening of these new housing units and improve the living conditions of these tenants." - Norbert Morin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy and Member of the National Assembly for Côte-du-Sud

"It is with great pride that I am officially opening today these new affordable units because, for me, a city like ours has a social responsibility to its more vulnerable citizens. It was therefore quite natural for the City of Montmagny to partner in this great project, which, I am sure, will help improve the living conditions of lower-income households and people with reduced mobility in our area." - Jean-Guy Desrosiers, Mayor of Montmagny
