25th Annual National Cadet Biathlon Championship-A Golden Opportunity!

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 2, 2012) - The 25th National Cadet Biathlon Championship will commence on Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Martock, N.S., with 138 cadet biathletes and 60 cadet officials from every province and territory in Canada. The championship will run until Friday, March 9, 2012.

"This year's championship not only marks the 25th anniversary of this national event, it also provides Cadets from across the country with a golden opportunity to achieve their personal bests and chances for personal growth," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "I wish the best to the cadets and instructors taking part in this energetic and robust competition."

The aims of the Cadet Biathlon Program are to promote physical fitness, to act as a catalyst for a cadet fitness/sports program, to promote the safe handling of rifles, and to stimulate and maintain an interest in the Cadet Program.

"Qualifying for this championship is no easy task. These young competitors are the best Cadet biathletes in their province and territory. The combination of power and endurance of cross-country skiing with the precision and calm of marksmanship makes this sport especially challenging, fun, and rewarding," said Colonel Craig Fletcher, Director Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers.

The races for the National Biathlon Championship 2012 include the Mass Start, Pursuit Race, Relay Race, and the Patrol Race.
