25th Terry Fox Run Gives Historic Boost to Cancer Research

Terry's Dream Lives On Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Health/Medical Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor CHILLIWACK, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 18, 2005) - Today in virtually every village, town and city Canadians united to celebrate the legacy of Terry Fox and further his cause to eradicate cancer. Preliminary results suggest Terry's wish to raise $1 from every Canadian will be replicated 25 years after the Marathon of Hope.

Terry wrote these words six months before he started The Marathon of Hope on April 12,1980.

"My quest would not be a selfish one. I could not leave knowing these faces and feelings would still exist even though I would be set free from mine. Somewhere the hurting must stop and I was determined to take myself to the limit"

Terry not only wrote these words he lived them. His sole purpose was to give of himself limitlessly and unconditionally so that others might live. For the past 25 years, our nation has continued the Marathon of Hope by uniting on every second Sunday after Labour Day to further Terry's legacy.

"Canadians have paid the ultimate tribute to Terry in this our 25th anniversary year, raising $1 from every Canadian" said Darrell Fox, National Director of The Terry Fox Foundation "In fact early results suggest we could double the $22 million raised last year around the world. We are overwhelmed and touched by the efforts of our Terry Fox Run volunteers, participants and donors for this incredible achievement."

On Friday, September 16th 3.4 million students at 10,000 schools across Canada participated in the National School Run Day. Including the 1,000 Community events today, together with runs in over 50 countries worldwide, over 6 million people are expected to participate in the 25th annual Terry Fox Run.
