275 Slater Street First Established Building in Ottawa to Achieve LEED Silver

OTTAWA, CANADA--(Marketwire - Dec. 6, 2011) - The office building at 275 Slater Street has become the first established building in Ottawa to receive the LEED-EB (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Established Buildings) Silver certification from the Canada Green Building Council. The 21- storey building, which is located at the corner of Slater and Kent Streets in downtown Ottawa, is managed by Colonnade Management on behalf of global real estate investment manager LaSalle Investment Management.

To-date, most LEED certifications are awarded to new buildings but the EB (established building) certification concentrates on existing buildings, maximizing the sustainability through revised policies and practices. At 275 Slater, Colonnade Management made changes to save energy, reduce waste, conserve water, and restrict the use of hazardous chemicals.

For the LEED-EB certification, green credits are earned in six categories:

  • Sustainable Sites

  • Water Efficiency

  • Energy and Atmosphere

  • Materials and Resources

  • Indoor Environmental Quality

  • Innovation in Design.

"This certification recognizes the commitment made by Colonnade Management and LaSalle to create a high performing, comfortable and healthy building," said Greg Johnston, Vice President Property Management Colonnade Management. "We believe that this type of investment benefits not only today's tenants but future generations as well."
