VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - June 9, 2015) - Canada Place is proud to host the nation's largest birthday celebration outside of Ottawa. On July 1, 2015 an estimated 250,000 people will celebrate Canada's 148th anniversary at the 28th Annual Canada Day at Canada Place, presented by Port Metro Vancouver.

This year's event will feature a full day of free family fun, highlights of which include live music and performances on three stages, a new family-friendly licensed area on the North Point, food carts, street hockey, the Canadian Forces Zone and the Vancouver Circus School. The evening will feature a Canada Day Parade on downtown streets, topped off by the Coast Capital Savings Canada Day Fireworks.

"Canada Day is a time for Canadians to come together and celebrate all that makes Canada the best country in the world to call home," said the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry and Minister Responsible for British Columbia. "As we count down to Canada's 150th birthday, I encourage all Canadians to join family and friends at local festivities like Canada Day at Canada Place to commemorate our history as a strong, proud and free nation."

The daytime activities will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Canada Place, Jack Poole Plaza and on the surrounding streets. Live music will include performances from headliner Hannah Georgas, Don Amero, Rumba Calzada and Tim Chaisson on the main stage at Canada Place. The North Point of Canada Place will feature a family-friendly licensed area with musical performances by Hairfarmers, Watasun, Bellwoods and more. The Celebration Stage in Hall A of the Vancouver Convention Centre East will feature the traditional Canada Day citizenship ceremony welcoming 60 new Canadians, followed by ongoing multi-cultural performances.

Guests can also enjoy a wide selection of food options, the Nature's Path Foods street hockey zone, the Port Metro Vancouver Salty's Fun Zone featuring games and activities for the family, and the Vancouver Circus School show full of daredevil displays and fearless skills.

Once again this year the ever popular Canadian Forces Zone will provide an up close experience with our department of national defence.
