300 Entrepreneurs to Convene for First-Ever Mega Startup Weekend

DEMO, Startup Weekend and Startup America Partnership Team up for Unprecedented Event; Three Winning Businesses to Display and Pitch at DEMO

FRAMINGHAM, MA--(Marketwire - Aug 11, 2011) - The DEMO Conference, Startup Weekend and the Startup America Partnership today announced the first-ever Mega Startup Weekend, taking place at Microsoft's Mountain View campus September 9th - 11th. Three hundred entrepreneurs will create businesses focused on three different industries -- Healthcare, Education and Gaming -- during the 54 hour event. One freshly-minted startup from each group will then display at the DEMO Conference immediately following the weekend. DEMO Fall will take place September 12th - 14th at the Silicon Valley Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara. DEMO Fall attendees will have the opportunity to vote on which of the three companies will have the unprecedented opportunity to pitch their business on the main stage during the conference. Interested entrepreneurs should visit now to sign up.

DEMO has a 20-year heritage of introducing game-changing new technology products to the world, and serves the entire ecosystem of technology innovation, from initial product concept to products ready for introduction into the market. The conference provides an environment for demonstrating companies to secure venture funding, establish critical business relationships, influence early adopters and meet with top tier press. But never before has a company merely days old had the opportunity to step into the spotlight on the main stage.

"Innovative minds like the ones gathering at the first-ever Mega Startup Weekend are what keep America on the cutting edge of innovation," said Neal Silverman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of DEMO. "We're excited to partner hand-in-hand with Startup America to further elevate shining examples of fresh, forward-thinking concepts that have great market potential."

Startup Weekend is well known for its global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Most of the organization's events that take place across the globe consist of about 100 developers, designers, marketers, project managers and startup enthusiasts coming together over a 54 hour period to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups. This is the first time Startup Weekend will triple the number of participants with the hopes of exponentially expanding the number of high-potential startups that are formed as a result. It also marks the first time Startup Weekend participants will have the chance to pitch a room full of possible investors, mentors and partners mere days after being formed.

"Startup Weekend has always joked about doing three events at one time, and now we're making it a reality thanks to the tremendous support from Microsoft, Startup America, DEMO and our local rockstar, Ahmed Siddiqui," said Marc Nager, CEO of Startup Weekend. "We will have three of the hottest themes facing startups underway at one time, hopefully encouraging some breakthrough teams and ideas that will be presenting on stage at DEMO just a few days after they are created. Mega Startup Weekend is sure to bring out the most creative minds from across the country, so be sure not to miss this event!"

The Startup America Partnership, a private organization working to help young companies succeed in order to create job growth in America, is a sponsor of DEMO Fall 2011. In addition to helping organize the Mega Startup Weekend, the Partnership will be hosting a high-level roundtable at the conference and capturing the entrepreneurial stories of all the DEMO participants.

"We are all about driving job growth in America by helping startups succeed," said Scott Case, CEO of the Startup America Partnership. "Working with DEMO and Startup Weekend is a natural fit and we're incredibly excited to see the potential high-growth startups that will emerge from Mega Startup Weekend, and to watch them perform for DEMO's fantastic audience."
