$300 Million Powerball Jackpot Up for Grabs!

DES MOINES, IA--(Marketwire - August 23, 2007) - The Powerball jackpot for next Saturday will be worth an incredible $300 Million. Even though the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening, Powerball paid off in big ways. Two lucky tickets in Montana and North Carolina won $800,000 cash with the Power Play option! In addition, twelve tickets purchased in Arizona (4), Colorado (1), Idaho (1), North Carolina (3), Pennsylvania (2), and West Virginia (1) each won $200,000 for matching all 5 white numbers.

The jackpot for the Saturday, August 25th drawing will be $300 million with the cash option at $140.3 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 12, 37, 40, 48, 50, and the Powerball was 37. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Ninty-one tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Eighteen additional players of that prize level wisely purchased the Power Play and had their prize multiplied by 4 for a $40,000 cash win! A total of 1,534,613 tickets across the nation won more than $15.2 million in prizes playing America's favorite game.

A total of 201,673 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prize by 4 Wednesday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased $67,189,265 in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The lotteries sold $2.5 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2007. That translates into over $725 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
