34th Street Chiropractic and Wellness Team Participating in Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Feb 14, 2012) - Midtown West Manhattan chiropractor Dr. Matthew Shave announced that his practice, 34th Street Chiropractic and Wellness, is participating in the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K. The chiropractic wellness center provides natural pain management and preventative care for patients struggling with chronic back pain, neck pain or injuries. As part of the practice's commitment to health, the wellness staff, chiropractors and patients will be participating in the 5K. Money raised helps support the New Jersey Special Olympics as well as the New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

The chiropractic wellness team at 34th Street Chiropractic and Wellness advocates maintaining an active lifestyle to stay healthy. This April, the wellness team is putting words into action by participating in the 2012 Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K.

"As a wellness chiropractor, I am committed to helping all my patients live an active, healthy life," said Dr. Leah Van Blarcom. "The Lincoln Tunnel 5K is an exciting opportunity to race side by side with patients, coworkers and thousands of New Yorkers who are passionate about health and fitness."

The Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K, to be held on April 29th, will feature 3,500 participants. The race begins in Weehawken on the Southside of the Lincoln tunnel, as participants race through the underwater tunnel to New York City, and then race back through the tunnel to Weehawken.

"As we prepare for this race, we are also reminding runners to be mindful of injuries and proper alignment," said Dr. Van Blarcom. "Many of our patients who suffer sports injuries do so because they routinely aggravate a small misalignment, which overtime becomes a major problem causing chronic pain. If a runner or athlete is suffering from a sports injury, chiropractic adjustments can help treat the underlying problem and also provide natural pain management."

Dr. Van Blarcom also stressed the importance of preventative care for avoiding injuries in the first place. "Proper alignment makes all the difference," said Dr. Van Blarcom. "Regular chiropractic adjustments ensure the body is balanced and aligned, which reduces the risk for injury. We recommend routine, preventative care to all our patients, especially those who enjoy athletic activities like running."

Dr. Van Blarcom has personal experience with the difference that proper alignment and preventive care can make in the body. As a child, she was diagnosed with an unlevel pelvis. After just a few months of treatment, Dr. Van Blarcom was able to walk and even compete in equestrian show jumping. "I understand first-hand the difference that chiropractic care can make for the body. I am committed to helping all people, including athletes, enjoy proper alignment and an active lifestyle. This 5K is a wonderful opportunity to promote health, fitness and natural pain management."

Individuals who would like to join the practice's 5K team may do so by visiting the wellness center's website, or Facebook page. Prospective patients may also visit the website to learn more about the services offered by the Midtown West Manhattan practice, including physical therapy and massage therapy.
