3D Printing Goes from Novelty to Consumer

London Drugs Launches Tiertime UP Mini 3D Printers on August 5 With In-Store Demonstrations

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 5, 2015) - London Drugs continues its long history of introducing unique and exciting products to its Western Canadian stores. Starting on Monday, July 27th London Drugs will be bringing 3D printers to consumers with the launch of the Tiertime UP Mini 3D printer. With decades of development and research, 3D printers have gone from professional use to novelty to consumer problem solver.

"At London Drugs we have always brought in products that are forward thinking," said Cedric Tetzel, London Drugs Computers Merchandise Manager. "We have seen 3D printing evolve over the years and feel this is the right time to introduce it to consumers in our markets. 3D printing has not only advanced design and manufacturing but it's also changing how people use it in their everyday lives."

The Tiertime UP Mini 3DPrinter is as easy use to as a traditional inkjet paper and uses UP Fila ABS Filaments. Designed with ease of use in mind the UP Mini is the perfect introduction to 3D printing.

The UP Mini features a protective enclosed design where raw plastic filament is layered on a warp resistant printing surface heated with PerfBoard in a safe and quiet machine. Using a precision head, ABS filaments are deposited on the platform, one fine layer on top of the other. These filaments are specifically engineered for UP 3D printers and provide excellent strength and low odour. The UP Mini is able to be used in any location.

For those bringing 3D printing home for the first time, families will be surprised how quickly replacement parts can be printed for broken items. The UP Mini uses super-strong ABS to make parts that can function and are ready to use. The UP Software is designed to get new users printing quickly. For Do-It-Yourself enthusiasts, the UP mini can make custom parts, sculptures, and more for creative projects. Designers may also find the UP Mini useful for printing prototypes at their desk as they work on larger projects.

"I want to encourage those who haven't used or seen a 3D printer to come and visit one of our 50 stores where we will have UP Mini demonstrations," added Tetzel.

Select London Drugs computer departments will be demonstrating how easy the Tiertime UP Mini 3D printer is to use with in-store displays. This printer is designed to be used out of the box providing a reliable and consistent user experience. Consumers will have the opportunity to see and touch the finished product and discover ways that 3D printing can be used in their lives. The Tiertime UP Mini 3D printer and replacement filaments are available online and at all London Drugs stores.
