3PAR Cements Green Storage Credentials in Europe

Leading Provider of Utility Storage Servers Officially Endorses the EU's Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2010) - 3PAR® (NYSE: PAR), the leading global provider of utility storage, announced today that it has been granted the title of Endorser of the European Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency. This newly-conferred status reinforces 3PAR's commitment to reducing energy consumption, carbon footprint, and ultimately the environmental impact of today's datacenters with its energy-efficient storage servers. As an Endorser, 3PAR is expected to follow the intent of the Code of Conduct and abide by a set of agreed commitments.

The main objective of the Code of Conduct is to cost-effectively minimize the amount of energy used by IT infrastructures without affecting performance. To achieve this goal, the Code of Conduct promotes improved understanding and awareness of datacenter energy requirements and offers a set of energy-efficient best practices and targets. Among the tools supported by the Code of Conduct are "green" technologies such as thin provisioning and storage virtualization, which have a direct bearing on the amount of power used to store and retrieve data.

Since its inception, 3PAR has designed efficient, green storage products that have delivered energy savings to datacenters around the world, and has incorporated green practices into its day-to-day operations to minimize corporate environmental impact. Today, 3PAR maintains a number of green initiatives targeted at reducing carbon emissions:

  • The 3PAR Virtual Technology Incentive Program
  • The 3PAR Carbon Neutral Storage Program
  • Internal waste and energy conservation practices
  • Green manufacturing and compliance practices
  • Environmentally conscious packaging
  • Employee participation in environmental programs

The combination of these initiatives, alongside 3PAR's status as an endorser of the Code of Conduct, makes 3PAR the provider of choice for EU organizations looking to maximize their storage budgets, performance, and resources utilization while following their environmental ethics.

"Many datacenters today rely on legacy technologies that were developed when the cost and impact of power consumption on the environment were not major concerns," said David Scott, 3PAR President and CEO. "3PAR has been at the forefront of environmental awareness in the data storage industry for over ten years, and it is encouraging to see so many other companies coming together to endorse the Code of Conduct and to lessen the environmental impact of the datacenter."

Other endorsers of the Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency include 3Com®, Microsoft®, and SNIA Europe.
