4 Star Dubai Hotel Earns Dubai Green Tourism Award

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES--(Marketwire - November 10, 2010) -  The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) launched the first-ever Dubai Green Tourism Award in June this year as part of commitment towards sustainable tourism and incorporate best environmental practices within the tourism sector. Courtyard Dubai, Green Community, a Media City Dubai hotel, performed exceptionally well and deserves to be recognized as a leader in conserving natural resources and preserving the environment. 

Dubai hotels and hotel apartments were encouraged to participate in the award program and their best environmental practices were assessed through a panel of judges. The judging was based on internal and external initiatives such as waste recycling, energy conservation and environmental awareness campaigns. Out of a total of 79 submissions, 33 hotel establishments were selected for site visits and assessments of their submission. Finally, 18 hotels and hotel apartments were shortlisted for the award ceremony.

Courtyard by Marriott Dubai Green Community has taken the initiative to find creative and effective ways of conserving the environment. Marriott employees have stepped up to the challenge of preserving the natural habitat by making their hotels as environmentally friendly as possible. For their green dedication, The Courtyard took 3rd place in the 4-star Dubai hotel category. Another proud winner of the Dubai Go Green Tourism Award was Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek, which also clinched 3rd place in the hotel apartment category. 

On hand to receive the award for the 4-star category was Wael Farouk, Director of Engineering of Courtyard by Marriott Dubai Green Community and also the Chairman of the Marriott Hotels Green sub-committee and Sabreena Jacob, Hotel Manager of the Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek under the hotel apartment category.

H.E. Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Director General of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, Executive Director of Media Relations and Business Development sector, presented the awards to Wael Farouk and Sabreena Jacob.

H.E. Bin Sulayem congratulated the winners and said that their achievements underline their commitments to moulding their hotels into environment-friendly establishments that adhere to the highest international quality standards.
