STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN--(Marketwire - September 28, 2010) - The Swedish-American Life Science Summit (SALSS) today announced that this year's SALSS conference will focus on understanding how the Life Sciences community has changed due to market forces and new technologies and how to better navigate and profit from a new environment. "In a life sciences environment that is increasingly global and in constant flux, the ability to bring about a transformation depends greatly on the ability to address the change and marshal resources such as capital," says Barbro Ehnbom, SALSS Chairman. "What this year's conference will do is to take a closer look at how we got here, what we are facing in terms of developmental and technological challenges and how we can go forward. By bringing together key industry thought leaders, scientists and researchers SALSS wants to be part of the dynamic change."

U.S. speakers at this year's conference will include renowned industry guru Steven Burrill, CEO and Founder of Burrill & Company; William Haseltine, Founder of Haseltine Global Health and Human Genomic Sciences, one of the seminal genomics companies; Joseph Cohen of JM Cohen & Company and CEO of investment bank Cowen & Co., until its acquisition by Societe Generale; Hans Wigzell, Professor Emeritus of the Karolinska Institute; Laurent Leksell, Founder & Executive Director Elekta AB; and senior life sciences executives from Pfizer AB., Abbott Laboratories., Bristol-Myers Squibb; as well as top industry advisers and investors.

"With distinguished guests from America, Asia, Europe and in particular the Scandinavian countries, calling SALSS Swedish American is probably not enough. The summit has expanded into an important global meeting point," says Mathias Uhlen, renowned scientist and Professor of Microbiology at Stockholm's Royal Institute of Technology.

Sponsors of SALSS in 2010 include Ernst & Young, The Boston Consulting Group, and Delphi, the international law firm based in Stockholm.
