84 Percent of Parents Want Control of Their Child's Phone

Mobile Security Company Trustlook Reveals That Parents Want to Block Websites and Limit Social Media Use

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - January 20, 2016) - Young teens are spending more time than ever on mobile devices, and parents are starting to show concern. According to a recent study from Trustlook Mobile Security, an innovator in next-generation mobile security solutions, 84 percent of parents would like to have some control over their child's mobile phone usage.

The study was based on over 700 responses to a survey sent to Trustlook's user base in December 2015. Key capabilities that parents would like to have, the study found, include blocking dangerous websites (62.4 percent) and limiting time spent on social media applications (58.3 percent).

"Parents are no doubt concerned with the rising smartphone usage among their children," said Allan Zhang, CEO and Founder of Trustlook. "Being a parent myself, I know the pitfalls that can happen with too much mobile device usage."

Other notable features that parents would like to have available are monitoring their child's incoming/outgoing calls and texts (48.4 percent) and knowing their child's location (42.8 percent).

In Trustlook's survey, 47 percent of parents claim they know little or nothing about what their child does on their phone. This is alarming, considering that a new study from Pew Research Center shows that 92% of teens report going online daily - including 24% who say they go online "almost constantly." More than half (56%) of teens - defined in this report as those ages 13 to 17 - go online several times a day.

"Mobile technology, like any technology, can be used for good or bad," said Zhang. "Security providers are stepping up and developing tools to help influence more of the good behavior of our youth."

Trustlook plans to offer parental security features in 2016. Detailed information on Trustlook Mobile Security can be found at http://www.trustlook.com.
