8th annual Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House presented by the Ottawa Citizen set for Sunday, June 19

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 15, 2011) -The Sens Foundation announced today its plans for the eighth annual Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House presented by the Ottawa Citizen, which will be held on June 19 at Scotiabank Place. The Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run is the signature fundraising event for the Sens Foundation's charity of choice — Roger's House.

The Sens Foundation has made a long-term commitment to cover 30 per cent of the annual operating costs for Roger's House. Walk, Roll & Run provides an opportunity for members of the community to get involved and support the Sens Foundation, while making an important and lasting contribution to countless children and their families in a time of need.

"Walk, Roll & Run is a great way of bringing our community together for a day of family fun to raise important funds for Roger's House, the region's only paediatric palliative-care hospice." said Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson. "Meeting the Roger's House families and hearing their stories always underscores why we must be successful in continuing to provide additional funds to operate the facility."

This year's Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House features the Irving Oil Tot-Trot, and the PwC 2km and 5km routes. The Nordion family fun zone, which includes Sens Street Tour activities, balloon artists, face painters, live entertainment, a barbeque lunch and much more will also return this year.

The community can support the event by registering and collecting pledges or by sponsoring a member of Roger's Dream Team. Roger's Dream Team is part of an innovative fundraising campaign that encourages local businesses to sponsor one of its 10 members. Joining Roger's Dream Team this year are Roger's All-Stars, a group of families who have come together to support fundraising efforts and celebrate the lives of their deceased children.

In addition, a T-shirt design contest was launched encouraging children to submit creative neck-tie designs in honour of former Senators assistant coach and Roger's House namesake Roger Neilson, who was renowned for wearing a crazy assortment of colourful ties. The winning design will adorn the front of this year's Walk, Roll & Run T-shirt.

The 2010 event raised $183,654 and saw more than 700 people take part. Ottawa Senators teammates Jesse Winchester and Matt Carkner also pledged their support by attending the festivities. With more than 3,000 participants over its seven-year history, the Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House has become synonymous with family fun in this community.

Roger's House is the charity of choice of the Sens Foundation. Now in its fifth year, Roger's House has had more than 1,300 admissions from across Ontario. The welcoming home-away-from-home atmosphere comforts children and families that are admitted to the state-of-the-art, eight-bedroom facility, where dedicated professionals and volunteers provide the best in compassionate care and support.
