A Call for Nominations for The Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2010

2010 national award celebrates achievements of Canadian newcomers

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 5, 2009) - Canadian Immigrant magazine and RBC announced today they are now accepting nominations for the "Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2010." The second annual awards program, also supported by Rogers Wireless, seeks to celebrate the stories and achievements of outstanding Canadian immigrants from coast to coast to coast.

"With 20 percent of the Canadian population foreign-born, it's important that we acknowledge the achievements of such a large group of people that make up our country - many of whom have made great contributions to Canada and their communities," said Nick Noorani, founder and publisher of Canadian Immigrant. "Immigrants need positive role models who motivate them to succeed in a new country as they journey through their new lives in Canada."

This national people's choice award is unique in that it allows Canadians to vote directly for individuals from all walks of life who have made a difference since their arrival in Canada. More than 10,000 votes from across Canada were cast in the inaugural awards program in 2009.

"RBC has a longstanding commitment to making it easier for newcomers to get settled, established and succeed in Canada," said Camon Mak, director, Multicultural Markets, RBC. "New immigrants strive to be part of the social and economic fabric of this country and it is important to RBC to recognize their accomplishments and contributions to Canada."

A nominee can be someone who has moved to Canada and, since immigrating, has contributed to the diversity and success of this country. Achievements can be either professional or personal. Nominees must hold landed immigrant or citizen status in Canada.

"Rogers is proud to support an event dedicated to honouring success stories," said Susan Gordon, vice-president, Marketing Services, Rogers Wireless. "The nominees demonstrate ongoing commitment and dedication not only to the Canadian business market but also to the Canadian community as a whole."

Nominations can be made at canadianimmigrant.ca/top25 until Jan. 29, 2010. A distinguished panel will review all nominees and present a list of finalists, which will be placed online in February and where all Canadians can vote for their favourites. The winners will be announced in May 2010 and will be recognized in Canadian Immigrant magazine. They will also receive a commemorative plaque and a $500 donation from RBC toward an authorized Canadian charity of their choice.
