Pump Prices Slide 78 Cents

HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 14, 2006 -- Pump prices in Texas continued their downward slide for the tenth straight week, falling a total of 78 cents in that period to its current average of $2.133 a gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

During the past week, Corpus Christi shaved a penny off its average to $2.034 a gallon -- the lowest average on the survey. The gas average in El Paso fell nearly nine cents to $2.251 a gallon -- the highest average on the list.

"Retail gas and crude oil prices continued to move lower despite speculation that members of OPEC would cut back on oil production," said AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. "The statewide average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline has dropped 78.3 cents since nearing a record high of $2.916 a gallon on July 28th."

The national average for regular self-serve gasoline dropped almost four cents to $2.251 a gallon.
