AAFC: Appointment to Farm Credit Canada Alberta

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 31, 2007) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, today announced the appointment of Ron Hierath as the Alberta Director of Farm Credit Canada.

"I congratulate Mr. Hierath on his appointment," said Minister Strahl. "I am confident that his extensive farming experience and work in the field of grain production and marketing will enable him to help Alberta's farm businesses to succeed."

Farm Credit Canada has been offering financial and business services to the agricultural community since 1959, actively partnering with other financial and agricultural institutions to finance a wide range of farm-related projects and strengthen rural Canada.

The appointment is effective immediately and valid for three years.

Biographical Notes - Ron Hierath

Ron Hierath currently works as a realtor in residential and agricultural sales in Lethbridge. Before this, Mr. Hierath was a member of the Legislative Assembly for the Government of Alberta, when he chaired the Standing Policy Committee on Agricultural and Rural Development, and became a member of the Grain Marketing and Transportation Committee. Prior to that, Mr. Hierath was a third generation wheat and barley producer for over 25 years, and a pork producer for over 20 years. He has also served as a member of the Alberta Grain Commission, Western Barley Growers Association, and Director of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association.
