| Source: Airspan Networks Inc.
BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - January 11, 2008) - Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ : AIRN ), a
leading worldwide provider of WiMAX and Wi-Fi based broadband wireless
access networks, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to
supply ACT Jordan PSC (ACT Jordan), a subsidiary of ACT Limited, with its
HiperMAX base stations and its EasyST indoor and ProST outdoor subscriber
terminals.
ACT Limited is a joint venture between Qatar Telecom (Qtel) Q.S.C. and A.A.
Turki Corporation for Trading and Contracting (ATCO) of Saudi Arabia.
At the beginning of 2007, ACT Jordan secured a 3.6 GHz frequency license
for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) in Jordan. The company is now
in the process of deploying a nationwide WiMAX service.
ACT Jordan will use Airspan's WiMAX technology to launch its voice, data,
and high speed internet service. Airspan's WiMAX solution will enable ACT
Jordan to offer a bundle of voice and data services, with the possibility
of upgrading to mobile WiMAX from the same platform.
Anders Rendahl, Airspan's Senior Vice President of Sales and General
Manager of EMEA, commented, "ACT Jordan's selection of Airspan's WiMAX
technology is a further validation that Airspan is gaining market share in
the Middle Eastern WiMAX market, which is one of the most innovative and
rapidly growing in the industry."
Dr. Sami Hinedi, the Chief Executive Officer of ACT Limited, said, "We are
looking forward to deploying Airspan's WiMAX technology in Jordan. We are
ready to provide the latest services to our customer base. Leading
technology and a dedicated customer focus approach have been the main
drivers in selecting Airspan to participate in our WiMAX initiative."
Dr. Bassam Hannoun, the Chief Executive Officer of ACT Jordan, added, "As a
new player in the market, our main goal is to provide a top notch customer
experience, and teaming up with Airpsan is a step in the right direction."
Eric Stonestrom, Airspan's CEO, added, "This initiative highlights the
growing momentum we are seeing in our WiMAX business. During the fourth
quarter alone, we shipped more than 1,500 base station sectors of HiperMAX
and MicroMAX to a broad customer base. In addition, the company has been
recently confirmed by the Industry Analyst firm Infonetics as one of the
two leading suppliers, measured by revenue, of WIMAX equipment in their
most recent report."
Airspan's Flagship WiMAX HiperMAX Base Station and EasyST Indoor WiMAX
modem combine to support both Fixed 16d and Mobile 16e WiMAX System
Profiles. This, combined with support for 5, 7, and 10 MHz channels,
ensures that the solution is highly scaleable, with up to 32Mbit/s per
channel, and up to 12 channels per Base Station. Full support for
advanced, multi-channel Receiver and Transmit diversity ensures class
leading operational range and true Indoor coverage.
