AFCAN Discovers New Mineralised Zone At Tanjianshan

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 6, 2005) - AFCAN (TSX:AFK) is
pleased to announce the discovery of a new mineralized zone in the Upper
Mantougou Valley, 750 metres southeast of the main Jinlonggou Prospect
at Tanjianshan. The zone was discovered by surface geological mapping
and has been tested at surface by two trenches and 3 shallow pits (2 -
5m depth) with best results as follows:

Type ID Interval (m) Grade g/t Au
---------------------------------------------------
Trench TC505 1.0 1.11
Trench TC509 1.1 1.26
Pit QJ52 2.1 12.29
Pit QJ53 1.0 1.10
Pit QJ55 1.05 1.00

Trenching also indicates wider zones of consistent elevated gold values
such as 12m @ 0.37 g/t Au in TC505 and 5.3m @ 0.64 g/t Au in TC509.
Afcan intends to drill test this prospect in the 2005 field program.

This mineralisation appears to be developed within an extension of the
F1 fault corridor seen at Jinlonggou. It is considered very significant
as it demonstrates that gold mineralisation extends much further along
these structures than previously thought. Afcan have yet to test and
delineate resources from the main Jinlonggou deposit east and southeast
to the satellite deposits of M7 and Pubugou.

All samples were prepared and analyzed at Xining Mineral Resource
Supervision & Detection Center. 10Kg field samples were crushed to
0.844mm and a 300gm sub split pulped to 100% passing 75 microns. A 20gm
pulp charge was digested using Aqua Regia with detection by AAS for gold
only.

This latest discovery indicates potential for extending resources even
further beyond those satellite deposits.

The Mantougou Prospect was discovered as part of Afcan's 2004 regional
exploration program on its four exploration licenses which total 338km2
in area. The work was undertaken by the First Brigade of Geology and
Mineral Exploration for Qinghai Province (Q1). Q1 discovered and
developed both the Jinlonggou and Qinlongtan deposits in the early
1990's.

A location plan of the Mantougou Prospect is available on Afcan's
website.

The programme is being carried out under the supervision of Phil Fillis,
an independent geological expert and Qualified Person for Afcan.

AFCAN is a China focused company and owns 85 % of the TJS Project at
Tanjianshan in Qinghai Province, China. A Bankable Feasibility Study
will be completed on the Project by January 2005 with construction
starting shortly after. There are an additional 23 anomalies on the
licence area of 341 km2 that are being explored. Afcan is also looking
at other opportunities in China.
