AMAPCEO Named One of the 90 Top Employers in the GTA

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire – Oct. 17, 2009) - The Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario (AMAPCEO) has been named as one of Greater Toronto's Top 90 Employers for 2010, it was announced today in The Toronto Star.

This is the fourth year in a row that AMAPCEO has been named to the GTA Top Employer list (formerly the Top 75 Employers in the GTA).

The first and only union to be identified as a top employer, AMAPCEO represents 11,000 public servants in every region of the province and in ten cities outside Canada.

AMAPCEO was also recently named for a fourth year to the national list of top employers (Top 100 Employers in Canada). AMAPCEO President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Gannage used the opportunity of the GTA award announcement to extend congratulations to the Ontario Public Service, which employs most of AMAPCEO's members, for also being selected as a top 2010 employer, both nationally and locally. He noted that "it is the combination of contributions from employees, their bargaining agents and their managers that help make a top employer".
The Toronto Star is featuring the 2010 Top GTA Employers in a special supplement to the Saturday edition today.

More About AMAPCEO and Our Members

AMAPCEO represents approximately 11,000 professional and supervisory public servants, most of whom work directly for the Government of Ontario in every ministry and in a number of agencies, boards and commissions. We also represent employees in: the Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth (an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario); the Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene; and the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion.

Established in 1992, AMAPCEO has built, in a relatively short period of time, a strong record of negotiating innovative collective agreements, of adopting a collegial, problem-solving approach to dispute resolution and of advocating for an apolitical professional public service as a critical component in Canada's system of parliamentary democracy.

AMAPCEO members include policy and financial analysts, auditors, economists, program supervisors, mediators, arbitrators, laboratory scientists, veterinarians, child and youth advocates and clinical co-ordinators. AMAPCEO-represented employees work in over 130 communities throughout the Province of Ontario, with over 70 per cent of AMAPCEO members, approximately 8,000 employees, working in the Greater Toronto Area.

AMAPCEO also represents senior economic officers who work in ten Ontario trade missions abroad, including Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Beijing and Tokyo.
