AME BC: Media Advisory; Phil Fontaine to Address BC Mineral Exploration and Mining Industry

Assembly of First Nations National Chief to Provide Timely Partnership Discussion

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2007) - Phil Fontaine, National Chief, Assembly of First Nations, will provide his views on how BC's mineral exploration and mining sector can develop meaningful partnerships with First Nations at the Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC) Speaker Series event on Monday, October 29, at 7:30 a.m. at the Terminal City Club, 837 West Hastings Street.

"We are honoured and pleased to have National Chief Fontaine speak at our event," said Dan Jepsen, President & CEO, AME BC. "AME BC is committed to developing and facilitating positive relationships between the mineral exploration and mining sector and First Nations. The National Chief's address comes during a turning point in our industry where exploration companies are taking very progressive and innovative approaches to partner with First Nations."

National Chief Fontaine's focus will be "Partnerships for Prosperity" and the opportunities for industry to create mutually beneficial relationships with First Nations. The event comes on the heels of two contrasting developments in BC's minerals sector. On the one hand, the NovaGold/Teck Cominco partnership to develop the Galore Creek copper-gold project in northwestern BC is seen as a model for Aboriginal and community engagement. More recently, a joint federal-provincial panel recommended that the Kemess North copper-gold project in northeastern British Columbia not proceed as proposed in part due to opposition from local First Nations.

The sold out event will draw 150 leaders from the Vancouver mineral exploration, mining, and investment sector.
