AMERICAN SYSTEMS Nets $42 Million United States Army Materiel Command SPOT Contract

CHANTILLY, VA--(Marketwire - November 23, 2009) - AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an IT solutions provider and one of the top 100 employee-owned companies in the U.S., today announced it was awarded a $42 million contract to provide life-cycle systems engineering and operations support services for the United States Army Materiel Command's Synchronized Predeployment and Operational Tracker (SPOT) Program.

"The SPOT program will advance the government's priorities to ensure the accurate tracking, visibility, accountability, and management of contractor assets supporting U.S. Armed Forces overseas," said William C. Hoover, president and CEO of AMERICAN SYSTEMS. "We will utilize our enterprise system development and management expertise and global support capability to manage a large team of exceptionally qualified partners to address matters of national importance -- all in one focused effort."

Under the contract, AMERICAN SYSTEMS is tasked with providing the full range of life-cycle systems engineering services and support for a DoD enterprise system providing near real-time tracking of contractor personnel supporting Department of Defense (DoD) military operations worldwide.

Specifically, AMERICAN SYSTEMS will provide systems integration and support operations that fuse data from various systems to provide a central, integrated source of information that will help combatant commanders plan force protection, medical support, and logistics support of contractors who accompany U.S. Armed Forces.

SPOT is a scalable, net-centric, Web-based application that provides the capability to maintain accountability and report status for contractor personnel and certain assets supporting the war-fighter. It enables the validation of contractor personnel associated with specific contracts, along with their authorization for access to specific DoD facilities, and their eligibility for specific government-furnished services, including transportation, housing, food, medical care, medical evacuation, and emergency evacuation coverage.

Work under the contract will be performed at both government and AMERICAN SYSTEMS facilities worldwide. The contract contains a 12-month base period with two 12-month options.

Founded in 1975, AMERICAN SYSTEMS is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the United States, with approximately 1,300 employees nationwide. Based in the Washington, DC, suburb of Chantilly, VA, the company provides systems engineering, technical and managed services to government and enterprise customers.
