ATCO Launches Blast-Resistant Modular Buildings

Two industry leaders form joint-venture partnership

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Feb. 24, 2010) - ATCO Structures & Logistics Ltd. has entered into a joint-venture partnership with Hunter Buildings & Manufacturing LP to offer blast-resistant modular buildings.

The partnership is called ATCO Hunter Blast Shelters Ltd. It combines Houston-based, Hunter Building's premier steel blast-resistant shelters with ATCO's renowned industrial modular buildings.

"ATCO Hunter Blast Shelters will allow workers to remain close to operations in hazardous areas, maintaining productivity integral to business while keeping people safe," said Harry Wilmot, President of ATCO Structures & Logistics. "Safety is important to ATCO, it is important to our clients and ATCO Hunter Blast Shelters provides a solution."

Ideal for military settings, oil and gas operations and petrochemical refineries, ATCO Hunter Blast Shelters has the ability to meet many special needs. This includes the ability to stack units and custom design interiors to suit client requirements. ATCO will be offering the steel blast-resistant units across Canada, Alaska and Australia for both permanent and temporary applications.

"Common reinforced concrete block buildings collapse at an overpressure of 4 psi or less, while our standard buildings are rated to withstand 8 psi," said Sam LaVergne, President of Hunter Buildings & Manufacturing LP. "Our clients can find comfort and confidence in our sound engineering and proven design in these blast-resistant buildings."

Proven in actual explosion tests, ATCO's blast-resistant buildings meet and exceed blast and safety specifications. They have also been field tested and meet the United States Department of State certification criteria for 60-minute forced entry and ballistic resistance.
