ATI Teams Up With Asus to Deliver New HDMI Notebook

MARKHAM, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 5, 2006) -

Asus selects ATI's Mobility™ Radeon® X1600 for its new W1J HDMI enabled notebook, to deliver the crispest image quality possible

ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY)(NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that the new Asus W1J notebook, offering leading edge portable entertainment through HDMI for superior output support of digital video and audio, will use ATI's leading Mobility™ Radeon® X1600 graphics processor. The Mobility Radeon X1600 also supports ATI's Avivo™ high definition video and display enhancement technology to ensure an eye-popping HD viewing experience is delivered every time.

ATI's Mobility Radeon X1600 is ideal for enabling the high definition, high quality visual experience necessary to take full advantage of the W1J's HDMI connectivity features. The W1J is one of the first to offer HDMI capabilities, which is the only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface available on the market today. HDMI provides the optimal interface between any audio/video source, such as a DVD player, set-top box or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV) or PC monitor, over a single cable.

As one of the first notebook computers with HDMI output support, the Asus W1J notebook is leading the industry by combining all of the computing power of a high-end notebook with next-generation multimedia capabilities. The W1J notebook provides users with a simple, single cable and user-friendly connector that replaces the maze of cabling found behind the traditional entertainment center.

"Asus is focused on delivering next-generation multimedia computing capabilities to our customers, and we're tremendously excited to be one of the first to offer HDMI output support with the W1J," said Tony Chen, General Manager, Notebook Business Unit, Asustek Computer INC. "To supply the high-quality visual experience that the HDMI digital interconnect provides to our end-users, we selected ATI for its superior graphics hardware solutions and to ensure that the HDMI notebook was a cutting-edge computing and entertainment tool."

"At ATI, we pride ourselves on being one step ahead, and our work with Asus on the W1J is a great example of this dedication," said Philip G. Eisler, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Chipset and Notebook Business Unit, ATI Technologies. "End users are demanding a powerful visual experience, and as new technologies come online, and HD content continues to proliferate, the need for cutting edge graphics technology will undoubtedly increase. Since our focus is graphics, and our job is to make digital content look the best it possibly can, partnering with companies like Asus to deliver industry leading products just makes sense."

ATI Technologies will be showcasing the Asus W1J at Computex, in Taipei, Taiwan from June 6th to 10th.
